On May 19th, 2007, the family and friends of Salvador Rivas Jr gathered at the site of the
forthcoming and newly named Salvador Rivas Jr Park behind the Esperanza Acosta Moreno library
on Pebble Hills for a groundbreaking ceremony.
Along with the family and friends, other attendees were, Presi Ortega, District 5 Representative,
Jim Suerken, Candidate for District 5 Representative, Norman Merrifield and Barry Russell from
El Paso Parks and Recreation, Colleen Lewis, Manuel and Kim Padilla, Charlene Walker, and Pete Hollen
from the Las Tierras Neighborhood Association, and Ellen Eyberg from the Library.
Speeches were given by Presi Ortega, Mrs. Salvador Rivas Jr, Salvador Rivas III, and Colleen Lewis.
Refreshments were served after the groundbreaking.
