LAS TIERRAS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION - MISSION

To develop a community identity; To promote its quality of life, namely the health, safety and welfare of our neighborhoods; and to participate in the political process as it pertains to our community in the city and county of El Paso, TX. by providing a conduit for clear communication between our community and our political leaders.

(Neighborhood Watch Tip Continued)

Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation.

Test it.

It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar or rapist won't stick around... after a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there.....

This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

P.S. It is also useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone. (Rio Grande Safe Communities Coalition)

HAVE A SAFE WEEKEND!

TxDOT releases list of state's structurally deficient bridges

- Bridges open to Texas motorists are safe.

- Improving safety is our most important goal
and our sacred obligation to the public.

- We will continue to monitor and maintain the
state's bridges through our aggressive bridge
program.

- Keeping our transportation system in good
repair is increasingly expensive.

- Without additional resources to offset higher
costs due to inflation and increased wear and
tear on an aging transportation system, we will
be forced to transfer money from congestion
relief to maintenance.

Good news about Texas bridges:

- Our bridge program is producing results. We
have seen a 31 percent reduction since 2002 in
the number of structurally deficient bridges.

- Only four percent of the state's bridges are
listed as structurally deficient, a term used by
the Federal Highway Administration to classify
and prioritize bridges for federal funding.
Nationwide, 12 percent of the bridges were
structurally deficient in 2006.

- Of the 2,024 structurally deficient bridges in
Texas, 282 are currently under contract for
Rehabilitation or replacement and another
1,303 are under development for improvement
as part of the state's Unified Transportation
plan. Only 439 structurally deficient bridges are
not currently scheduled for improvement and
no funding has been identified for them.

THANK YOU!
