LAS TIERRAS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION - MISSION

To develop a community identity; To promote its quality of life, namely the health, safety and welfare of our neighborhoods; and to participate in the political process as it pertains to our community in the city and county of El Paso, TX. by providing a conduit for clear communication between our community and our political leaders.

Meet the New LTNA OFFICERS!

LTNA held their first annual elections at the January meeting. Welcome to Colleen Lewis, President; Manuel Padilla, Vice President; Rick Falvo, Secretary; Charlene Walker, Treasurer.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

One New Year; Many new challenges! As your new President, I am excited to have the opportunity to be playing a part in meeting these new challenges. Pete Hollen did a terrific job in creating a foundation for us to build upon. Thank you, Pete. I'd also like to thank Anthony Mendoza and Sandy Nelson for their terrific efforts as Secretary and Treasurer during the startup phase of the Association. They are much appreciated.

The Las Tierras Neighborhood Association has indeed come a long way in the 6 months we have been in existence. In Pete's farewell message he talks about some of the successes and some of the issues that have been addressed so I won't repeat those here. However, we have a long way to go to have the community that we all would wish for.

The officers have many new ideas to address, but we also need input and help from you, the members. The participation of the whole community is vital in creating an Association that will be effective and beneficial to all the members. Talk to us at the meetings, email us, call us... anyway you can to let us know your great ideas for a better community. If you are already a member, participate by volunteering; both your ideas and your time when you can. If you are not a member, please join us and make the Association a strong and vital organization. For those of you who do not live in our area, but would like to participate in our functions, we have just created an Advocate Member... See our new bylaws for an explanation. We would love to have you too. Your new Officers and I are looking forward to a great year! Please join us! Sincerely, Colleen Lewis, President

FAREWELL MESSAGE FROM: PETE HOLLEN

Dear Members, As a famous General once said, "Old Soldiers never die, they just fade away"; and so it is with old Presidents. It's time for the changing of the guard, and for me to express my sincere thanks to all for the opportunity to lead the Las Tierras Neighborhood Association. Six months never went so fast and it's been a great ride. Through your support, you allowed me to realize a dream towards building a better community with opportunities for a growing quality of life. Together we achieved a great deal and created beginnings I once thought would never happen. We created the concepts for our community park, which is scheduled to start construction in May, 2007.A website was designed, which many in El Paso have told me is second to none and seems to be greatly appreciated when we consider the number of hits to date. Our first outreach program with the Sgt. Roberto Ituarte Elementary School was a huge success. We have made inroads into the Builder/Developer community such as River Oaks, Bryon Abraham and Sierra Providence Hospital. Sometime in the near future all these organizations desire to talk with our organization about their plans for our community. Street lighting has been addressed with the city and our first installation should take place sometime in the next month. Many untested fire hydrants have been tested, helping to improve our safety. An excellent relationship has been established with the El Paso Police Department, helping us with Neighborhood Watch, community security and gang related activities. The February Association meeting will feature the El Paso Police Gang Unit to answer questions from our members. We have had some excellent speakers at our meetings. In March, seven of our members will graduate from the City of El Paso Leadership Academy. All in all, in my opinion, it has been a very good beginning. The newly elected officers are all qualified to do a great job in leading this organization but they will need your support and help throughout the year to accomplish some great things. So please volunteer whenever you can. It's your organization and you can make it even greater. If we, as members, get behind the officers, I fully expect another good year in '07. Together in unity, we can make a difference. God Bless and see you all at the February meeting. Pete Hollen, President, Retired
