LAS TIERRAS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION - MISSION

To develop a community identity; To promote its quality of life, namely the health, safety and welfare of our neighborhoods; and to participate in the political process as it pertains to our community in the city and county of El Paso, TX. by providing a conduit for clear communication between our community and our political leaders.

This and That from Colleen

I just wanted to remind everyone that elections are coming up in May. We need to elect a new District 5 representative so be sure and get out and vote!

Just an observation…We have 83 members now but the turnouts for our monthly meetings are extremely low… Please support your Association by attending the meetings and also volunteering your time when there are activities being held to benefit your neighborhood. We have had some great speakers at the meetings and the information gained at these meetings would be very helpful to you. So, please plan to attend the Association meetings.

Speaking of meetings, we have decided to NOT have meetings in the months of July and August, so that everyone can enjoy the summer.

Sincerely,
Colleen Lewis, President

April 21st
Public Meetings on Rewrite of Subdivision Ordinance FOR CODE COMPLIANCE

The City of El Paso is conducting public meetings to get input from the general public on the proposed revisions to the City's Subdivision Ordinance. These public meetings are your opportunity to review the proposed changes and give your opinion on them. Three (3) meetings will be held-two (2) in the Central area and one (1) on the far Eastside. This rewrite is intended to provide for the orderly, efficient development of the City of El Paso. The new Subdivision Ordinance will provide for dedication or reservation of open space, recreation areas, and other public facilities. It will protect historic resources and the natural environment and take into account the distribution of population and traffic in order to avoid congestion and overcrowding. This rewrite shall be conducive to creating conditions essential to public health, safety and the general welfare of our residents. The purpose of the Subdivision Ordinance is to establish certain standards and procedures for land subdivision and development for residential, business, or industrial purposes. It prescribes minimum standards for the layout and development of real property, establishes procedures and guidance for the review and consideration of all subdivisions, re-subdivision, or dedications in the incorporated areas of the City of El Paso as well as for subdivisions proposed in the unincorporated area in the five- (5) mile area around the corporate limits of El Paso. The subdivision ordinance provides procedures for the preliminary and final approval or disapproval of the several subdivision applications. Where does the authority for land use regulation come from? Chapter 211.001, Texas Local Government Code states that the purpose of land use regulations is to promote the public health, safety, morals, or general welfare and protecting and preserving places and areas of historical, cultural, or architectural importance and significance.
