The City of El Paso is conducting public meetings to get input from the general public on the
proposed revisions to the City's Subdivision Ordinance. These public meetings are your opportunity
to review the proposed changes and give your opinion on them. Three (3) meetings will be held-two (2) in
the Central area and one (1) on the far Eastside. This rewrite is intended to provide for the
orderly, efficient development of the City of El Paso. The new Subdivision Ordinance will provide
for dedication or reservation of open space, recreation areas, and other public facilities.
It will protect historic resources and the natural environment and take into account the
distribution of population and traffic in order to avoid congestion and overcrowding. This rewrite
shall be conducive to creating conditions essential to public health, safety and the general
welfare of our residents. The purpose of the Subdivision Ordinance is to establish certain
standards and procedures for land subdivision and development for residential, business, or
industrial purposes. It prescribes minimum standards for the layout and development of real
property, establishes procedures and guidance for the review and consideration of all subdivisions,
re-subdivision, or dedications in the incorporated areas of the City of El Paso as well as for
subdivisions proposed in the unincorporated area in the five- (5) mile area around the corporate
limits of El Paso. The subdivision ordinance provides procedures for the preliminary and final
approval or disapproval of the several subdivision applications. Where does the authority for
land use regulation come from? Chapter 211.001, Texas Local Government Code states that the
purpose of land use regulations is to promote the public health, safety, morals, or general
welfare and protecting and preserving places and areas of historical, cultural, or architectural
importance and significance. |
